When we moved here, several people told us that the only way to make it through the winter was to get outside and learn to enjoy it. Well, our kids are much better at it than we are. (Although we did purchase his and her snowshoes last week!) They think nothing of getting on the gear and heading outside.
Their latest adventure is the building of this snow tunnel. I would guess that it is about 20 feet long and has a couple of “rooms” off the main corridor! Any hardcore winter camper would give this shelter the thumbs up. They started by piling up a long, tall mound of snow and then carving out a tunnel with various tools – small sand pails, and their hands. And the bulk of this was done in 5 degree weather! They were just so busy that they stayed fairly warm.
Another outing we took this weekend was to New York City to see Mary Poppins on Broadway. Since it was a Saturday, and there was not the usual commuter traffic, we left our house at 9:30am and parked our car on 42nd Street about 3 blocks from our theater and Time Square by 12 noon. Easy as pie! I saw the show in August with my sister and ever since have wanted to take the kids to see this spectacular production. Well, thanks to a very generous and thoughtful friend – who gave us several VISA gift cards recently – we were able to go! I even found half-price tickets on line so the total bill was less than $200 – which is almost unheard of! All of us were completely mesmerized by the show, and we even bought the soundtrack so we’ve been singing ever since! It was VERY COLD though – and windy, but so worth it.
I’m so jealous – of the production, NOT the cold or the snow! 🙂 Sounds like it was a blast!
Awww…. so fun!! And Kayla is looking mighty sharp with her cute winter coat and hat!
Goodness! THis is like the 10th post where you’ve appeared in NYC! We live only 30 minutes from there. If you need a place or a meal, give us a call! I’ll send you the number!!! : ) And, I would love to see one of those shows sometime, especially since we live so close. But, with children so young, I guess I don’t think about it!
I am so very jealous. Looks WONDERFUL! What fun!
