Upon being seated – which sometimes takes a while since the place is tiny – you are given a tall glass full of long, hot, fresh, gluten free breadsticks – like crusty, buttery, brown “flour” stems standing tall in their vase. And these can be replenished as often as you like. The kids thought they were in GF heaven!
Kory had a cheese pizza. They have a very thin and crispy crust. Cooper ordered a turkey/cheese panini – like a grilled sandwich. Robert had the same – only his had gluten! (They are extremely careful about cross contamination, though.) I had the spinach, red pepper, and feta risotto – which is almost like orzo pasta, but really a dense-grained rice. Kayla had a sampler plate made of portions of all of our food. Everything was delicious and safe!
And this is only one of MANY restaurants and bakeries in NYC that cater to special diets and allergies. Takes a little effort to get your bearings, but if you do the research ahead of time, you can have a wonderful dining experience in the city. Celiac Chicks is a blog dedicated almost exclusively to dining in NYC with Celiac Disease.
How wonderful! Why didn’t I think of making risotto when you were here… my favorite food AND gluten-free! 😀
Oh my gosh! That all sounds delicious…and I want that cookie your sweet girl is working on. 🙂
Yum!! I remember eating at Risottoria with you! Remember those amazing GF breadsticks?? HOw fun for y’all! Miss you!
That is so amazing that a restaurant can cater to such a specific need and obviously have success. Urban areas are good for things like that. What a treat!
New York is the place to be. No other city has so many GF options.
Risotto is a staple in our house, fairly easy to prepare and so good.
here are some images of my attempts:
