Super Tuesday Disclosure

I enjoy politics. I love it when Tim Russert gets out his dry erase boards and breaks down the electoral college votes. I want to hear what Sean Hannity has to say. ( I don’t have Fox News, though, so this happens only rarely!) But, I don’t often feel comfortable talking about it, especially in this hotbed of liberalism. In the safety and comfort zone of my own home, though, it is always a topic. In the past, I guess I would have been described as a “values voter.” I don’t want unborn babies to be killed, or embryos created and discarded for experimentation. I think it’s best if kids grow up with a mom and a dad – best for them and therefore best for the country. Social programs don’t seem to give real motivation, or help for that matter. (I’ve seen more people restored of both their dignity and their debt through the aid of the church, rather than the state.)

So, today is Super Tuesday, and I think the first primary in which I’ve ever voted. The person I voted for stands for these values, but probably wouldn’t mandate them federally. In the past, I think this would have concerned me greatly – more moral legislation = better place for raising a family, and living life in general. But now, and this may be simplistic, I think the more control we had as a state, the better. I think I might be more passionate about the lawmaking process, the Constitution, the poor, the elderly, the economy, etc. if it were more up to me and my community. (Although I might have to move to another state 🙂 , and this probably brings up further political issues !)

Let the people decide locally, and let those decisions that fail, fail. Maybe if we didn’t have a federal and taxpayer funded resolution to every social problem, we would stop looking to the government as our savior, and start looking to the real Savior.

My candidate won’t win, but I’d like to be a part of a movement toward this change.

Now you know. (I’m sure you were dying to!) 🙂

  2. Melanie, I think you know that I share a lot of the same concerns you have about “the state of the nation.” I belong to a third party, so my vote doesn’t count today, but Ron Paul is the only candidate I really like. The rest of the give me varying degrees of the willies. Maybe one day there will be a candidate I support who actually has a shot at winning? 😉

  3. I am sure you noticed when you were in SM that there are a LOT of Ron Paul supporters ’round here. Good for you for voting with someone you feel best represents your view on things! I don’t normally get in to politics, but this has been such an exciting political year, I am VERY into it these days.
