Kayla’s Garden House

This week we put the finishing touches on Kayla’s long awaited garden house. This project began in May during Grammie and Paw-Paw Krumrey’s bi-annual visit to Massachusetts. Paw-Paw and Robert drew up the plans, and with the help of Kory and Cooper shopped for materials and began building. Kayla has been dreaming of a space like this ever since reading Lily’s Garden – a book about a little girl and what she does year-round in her family’s garden.

We also worked on our garden, putting in the last of our plants – some of which we got for free this week at the Brookfield Farm – a farm co-op that we belong to. Tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, and watermelon. We have four garden plots this year – last year we only tried one small one. The other plots have flowers and herbs in them – chamomile, basil, dill, mint, chive, cilantro, strawberries, zinnia, and gerber daisy. This is definitely an experiment, as I (Mel) have no experience, and can barely keep a houseplant alive! But, the Lord has definitely given Kayla a heart for gardening, so we’re learning together – actually she’s teaching me a lot – says she gets her information from the gardening books we’ve checked out at the library!

We love the $1 fabric bin at Wal-Mart!
